“WordPress is too complicated.”

“WordPress is too complicated.”

A client said this to me. And, it’s true.

For the individual looking to create and maintain a website by themselves, WordPress is complicated. And, there are a number of alternatives that are initially easier to use.

I use WordPress for all my client websites. Here’s why?

Flexibility

Clients hire me to create unique online experiences for their business and brand. Doing this requires more than just a set of features. It requires the ability to customize how those features work.

Other website solutions like Squarespace and Kajabi, do a great job of integrating features for specific business verticals, and making it easy to administer them. But, how those features do what they do cannot be changed. This limitation is fine for most users up to a point. That point is where “how it works” matters.

When “how it works” matters, WordPress becomes the preferred solution.

When a business or brand is getting started, “how it works” doesn’t matter. Later, there comes a point when that changes. A time when you need to create a marketing funnel and a customized user experience. At this time you want all the parts of your funnel system to be managed in one place. WordPress can do that.

I use WordPress to manage website content, SEO, email campaigns & email marketing automation, form submissions, events and event registrations, and more.

Here are some key WordPress benefits:

Open Source

WordPress is open source software. This means you get the source code for free. And you own it. You can edit and modify the code to suit your needs.

Content Management System

WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS). This means it stores all the content that appears on your WordPress site in a database. This approach enables several important content management features including:

  • Versioning and History
  • User-Friendly Interfaces
  • Preventing Unauthorized Access
  • Tools for Data Analysis

Plugins

WordPress uses a plugin framework to add features and functionality. There are thousands of WordPress plugins available. And you can code your own plugins (PHP skills required). This plugin framework means you can customize WordPress any way you like.

Themes

WordPress uses a theme framework to control how your WordPress site “looks.” The WordPress theme system separates the display functions of a WordPress site from the other web server and database functions. There are thousands of WordPress themes available. You can also code your own theme.

WordPress is a powerful and customizable website platform. And yes, it is complicated.

Here’s a technology rule: “If it’s simple and easy, it’s not flexible. If it’s flexible, it’s complicated.”

WordPress is complicated. It’s also free, extensive, and completely customizable.

I make the power of WordPress accessible to my clients with the plugin and theme recipe I use.

When “how it works” matters, consider using WordPress for your website.
